A material investigation into Seaweed as a source for making bioplastics at a local scale.
The Isle of Wight is surrounded by coasts crowded with species of seaweed. I harvested Gelidium, a type of red seaweed, to make my own Agar and began to make bioplastic samples. Interested in reclaiming traditionally industrial-scale processes, I wanted to see what was acheivable at a personal and small scale, without specialist equipment.
I successfully produced Agar and made various samples of bioplastic.
